The Clare Celebrates 100
Aril marked an auspicious occasion for The Clare. Earlier this month, a cocktail party was held for residents to celebrate the sale of the 100th apartment in the upscale senior retirement community in Chicago's Gold Coast. “The Clare's resurgence is really taking hold as we sold our 100th apartment recently. This is a noteworthy milestone and shows that The Clare is better and stronger than ever. It is a great place to call home,” said James Kneen, executive director of The Clare.
The Clare emerged from bankruptcy in 2012 as Chicago Senior Care purchased the property and contracted with Life Care Services for management. The new owners and management have remained committed to delivering unparalleled service to residents of the community located in a 53-story high rise on Pearson and Rush. The luxury building boasts fully customizable one, two, three and four bedroom apartments with top of the line finishes and appliances and breathtaking views of the lake and the city.
Carol Niebling was delighted to be celebrating the sale of the 100th apartment. One of the first residents to have moved into The Clare in 2009, Niebling said that she and her husband fell in love with the location and the plans for the community, and made a deposit on an apartment before there was “even a hole in the ground to start building. We had decided to sell our home and move into a condo in the city,” Niebling said. “When we heard about The Clare and learned that it was condo-living but with complete continuing care, the decision was made. We signed up within two days. The sales woman didn't even have to sell us at all. The Clare sells itself.”
Niebling recalled that during construction, the couple would often have lunch in the area and then stroll over to Rush and Pearson to check on its progress. “We'd watch the elevator on the outside going up and down and then eventually, they topped off. We counted down to the 49th floor and saw what would be our balcony. We were always very excited,” she said.
Niebling's excitement hasn't waned over the four years that they've lived at The Clare. “When I walk into my apartment I always stop and look around. I look out at the view and always think about how wonderful it is here. I don't ever want to get used to it.”
Stating that The Clare is a “wonderful place to live,” Niebling cited the many amenities. The staff, food and programs and activities at The Clare are exceptional, she said. “And of course the location is great. I love that we can walk to the zoo, Navy Pier, the symphony, shopping and restaurants. We rarely take a cab or bus.”
Niebling added that her fellow residents are what make The Clare feel like home. “Everyone is friendly and everyone has a great story,” she said. “The more people who move in, the more fun it is.”
Niebling said, moving to The Clare while she and her husband are both in excellent health was “the best gift we could give our kids. They never have to worry about us if our health starts to decline.”
