Des Plaines Police Issue “Scam Alert”

The Des Plaines Police Department cautions those who have had dwellings impacted by flooding to be aware of fake insurance adjusters. People POSING as insurance adjusters are approaching homeowners in the flood-affected areas stating that they are “here to assess the damage.” According to Police, they may walk around examining the property, take photos, take measurements, and then ask the homeowner for a deductible payment, claiming to “expedite the processing."

Des Plaines Police remind the public that adjusters from insurance companies WILL NOT ASK FOR, NOR ACCEPT, a homeowners' deductible. Always ask for identification. Report this activity immediately to 9-1-1.
