Bears can still use O-line help
The addition of two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jermon Bushrod from the Saints and three-year starting guard Matt Slauson from the Jets moved the Bears two steps forward in their journey to improve one of the league’s weakest offensive lines.
But last year’s best O-lineman, Lance Louis, left for Miami via free agency, moving the Bears one step back.
Bushrod’s arrival moves last year’s starting left tackle J’Marcus Webb to right tackle. He will compete with Jonathan Scott, a five-game starter there last year, and Gabe Carimi, the 2011 first-round pick, who started 11 games at right tackle and three at right guard.
The Bears hope one of the two losers in that competition can step in at whatever guard spot Slauson doesn’t take.
While the tackle situation should be improved, guard could use an upgrade, and center Roberto Garza is 34 with no apparent heir on the roster.
