Police: West Chicago man caught sexually assaulting woman
West Chicago police caught a man in the act of raping a woman while responding to a 911 call at her home, prosecutors said Monday.
Jose Ramirez-Alcantar, 60, appeared in DuPage County bond court on one count of criminal sexual assault. His bail was set at $200,000.
Police responded to the victim’s home in West Chicago at 2:18 a.m. Sunday after another person there reported a possible break-in, authorities said.
Officers were searching the home when they heard a woman cry out words to the effect of “no sex” from behind a closed door, Assistant State’s Attorney Mandy Meindl said in bond court. She said police opened the door and found Ramirez-Alcantar assaulting the woman.
Meindl said the victim and the defendant had been at a bar earlier that evening. The woman, who was hospitalized for testing and treatment, told police Ramirez-Alcantar forced himself on her, while “the defendant denied having sex with her — even though officers found him on top of her,” Meindl told Judge Brian Diamond, seeking bail of $400,000.
Assistant Public Defender Clarissa Myers asked for a lesser amount, arguing “alcohol may have tainted judgment on both sides.”
Ramirez-Alcantar, of the 30W300 block of Pomeroy Street near West Chicago, was previously convicted of aggravated battery in Kane County, according to prosecutors.
He would have to post a $20,000 bond to be released from jail. His next court date is April 1 in front of Judge John Kinsella.
