Comcast to double Internet speeds in March
Comcast Corp., which has its Midwest headquarters in Schaumburg, Tuesday said it will roll out faster speeds, some more than double, for Xfinity Blast and Extreme 50 for subscribers in the Chicago and suburban region for no additional cost in March.
Also for no extra cost, Comcast in April will increase the speed of its Performance plan by more than 60 percent.
“As customer demands and technology evolve, we continue to increase our broadband speeds to deliver the best, fastest and most reliable Internet experience possible for our customers,” John Crowley, Comcast’s region senior vice president said in a statement. “Whether chatting, surfing, streaming, gaming, Skyping or downloading, families will get the superfast, high-performing Internet service they need, with no extra charge.”
The Blast! plan is increasing download speeds from up to 25 megabits per second to speeds up to 50 mbps and upload speeds from up to 4 mbps to up to 10 mbps. And Extreme 50 customers will receive download speeds up to 105 mbps, compared to the former 50 mbps, and upload speeds up to 20 mbps, compared to 15 mbps.
The Performance plan is increasing to speeds up to 25 Mbps from 15 Mbps downstream and to 5 Mbps from 2 Mbps upstream. To activate the new speeds when they become available, customers just need to restart their cable modems, the company said.
