The Des Plaines Police Department hosted a December 4, 2012 Graduation Ceremony for participants of the twelve week Citizen’s Police Academy, held this fall at the at the Des Plaines Police Station, 1418 Miner Street.

According to Des Plaines Police Officer Colin Johnson, the Citizen’s Police Academy included sessions involving the shooting range, an Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Law overview, domestic violence, traffic stop/felony traffic stop practicals, ride-a-longs with a patrol officer, evidence collection, and many other topics. Participants interacted with many Des Plaines Police Officers throughout the 12 week course, which culminated in the Graduation Ceremony on December 4, 2012. The event was held in the City Hall Council Chambers. Each participant received a certificate from Des Plaines Police Chief Bill Kushner.

“The Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to get an understanding of the Des Plaines Police Department and its role in the community. Many of our graduates gave testimony at our graduation event as to how valuable this program was to them,” Officer Johnson said.

Des Plaines Police Officers involved with the Citizen’s Police Academy developed a video about the 12 week session. It may be viewed as part of the televised Des Plaines Citizen’s Police Academy Fall Graduation on Des Plaines Cable Channel 17 (visit www.desplaines.org/17 for an
