Palatine prevails at Conant
Palatine used a decisive scoring edge in the first half and just enough free-throwing shooting down the stretch to earn its first Mid-Suburban West win of the year, a 45-41 decision Thursday at Conant.
The Pirates (4-3, 1-1) took a 29-18 lead into the half, but Conant made it a 7-point game heading into the fourth quarter.
Palatine coach Eric Millstone said his team handled Conant’s comeback fine, with one exception: free throw shooting. The Pirates finished 12-for-22 at the foul line.
“Any time you can beat a team like Conant at their place, it’s going to be good for your program,” Millstone said.
Roosevelt Smart led all scorers with 18 points for Palatine. Robert Hudson had a team-best 15, including a pair of 3s, for Conant (2-5, 0-2).
