Two injured in head-on Wauconda crash
Two people were injured early Tuesday in a bad crash on Gilmer Road in Wauconda, authorities said.
The preliminary investigation shows a 17-year-old girl from Gurnee was behind the wheel of a Hyundai when she drifted across centerline and hit a Toyota driven by a 50-year-old Buffalo Grove man, Wauconda Deputy Police Chief John Thibault said.
Both vehicles flipped over following the head-on collision at 7:32 a.m., east of Liberty Lakes Boulevard, Thibault said. The Buffalo Grove male had to be extracted from the car, he added.
Both drivers were injured and were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Thibault said.
Gilmer Road was shut down between Fairfield Road and Liberty Lakes Boulevard for about two hours while the cars were towed away and the crash investigated, he said.
No one has been cited yet, Thibault said, and the crash remains under investigation.
