Des Plaines Senior Corps Police & Fire

The Des Plaines Senior Corps Police & Fire is a new program coordinated by the Police and Fire Departments, in cooperation with the Frisbie Senior Center. All of the 45 members are graduates of the Senior Citizen Police Academy, a requirement for belonging to the Senior Corps Police & Fire. The Corps’ goal is to provide continuing education, from a law enforcement and health/safety perspective (with these classes being instructed by Fire Department personnel), to senior citizens. Senior Corps Police & Fire members frequently volunteer at community events such as the Tour Des Plaines, the Apache Park grand opening, and the Des Plaines Park District’s Halloween House Decorating Contest where members will judge contest entries. Most recently the Corps toured Fire Station #1, meeting with Firefighters, and then met with members of Karis Management (McDonald’s), who gave the group a tour of the Des Plaines McDonald’s on River Road. Attendees agreed that the day was both fun and educational.
