Another super Saturday for Stevenson

Stevenson’s girls volleyball team enjoyed another sweet Saturday.

After winning Elk Grove’s invite last weekend by winning all five of their matches, the Patriots went 5-0 in their own tournament Saturday.

Stevenson (24-2) captured two-set victories over Grant, Loyola, Wheeling, McHenry and Vernon Hills. Khaila Donaldson had 3 kills, 3 aces and 2 solo blocks in the Patriots’ 25-15, 25-14 win over Loyola, which went 4-1 on the day.

Donaldson’s dandy day also included 4 aces against Vernon Hills, 4 kills and 2 solo blocks vs. McHenry and 5 kills against Wheeling. Jenna Radtke and Liza Pflugradt had 22 and 21 kills, respectively, in Stevenson’s five matches.

Vernon Hills (9-17, 2-3) was led by Shannon Nugent’s 43 kills. Jenn Claussen totaled 24 kills in the tourney for the Cougars.

At Lake Forest: Grayslake North went 2-3, despite setter Lisa Lowry twisting her ankle and missing most of the tournament. Kelsey Klausner had 23 kills and 8 aces for Grayslake North (7-17), while Alaina Geissberger posted 10 blocks.

Filling in for Lowry, Brittany Greig lofted 36 assists, served 27 of 27 and totaled 13 digs.

“Brittany did a great job,” Knights coach Nikki Kirchway said. “Our team really rallied around each other, and we had some great rallies in all the matches.”

Melanie Aikin added 18 kills for the Knights, whose pair of wins included a 25-22, 25-22 decision over Lake Forest.

“I am very proud how everyone played together and fought for points,” Kirchway said.
