Mundelein teen named Lynn scholarship winner

Kailey Martin of Mundelein has been named winner of the 13th annual John W. Lynn Performing Arts Scholarship presented by the Kirk Players.

“We’re very pleased to award the John W. Lynn Performing Arts Scholarship to an individual who has proved to be as fearless behind the scenes as she is on stage,” said Sheila Bourque, president of the Kirk Players.

“As with many of our previous scholarship winners, Kailey Martin has demonstrated leadership and a willingness to take on challenges in her high school career at Mundelein High School. I expect she will be very successful pursuing theater at University of Iowa.”

In presenting Martin with the scholarship, named for the group’s founder and installed in 2000, the group continues giving back to the community, even in difficult times.

The scholarship is awarded to a student based on academic achievement, school productions, extracurricular community involvement and a decision to pursue a degree in the performing arts.

The Kirk Players has decided to expand the scholarship award program to include Carmel Catholic High School for the 2012-13 season.

“Our commitment to education and support of young people of our community has been demonstrated at Carmel through the years. We are simply recognizing that very fine school’s programs and their commitment to theater and the arts,” Bourque said.

Martin plans to pursue lighting design at Iowa this fall.
