Celebrating 92 years of the power of the vote

Glenview – August 26 marks the 92nd anniversary of the constitutional amendment that granted women the right to vote. The League of Women Voters of Glenview will celebrate Women's Equality Day by preparing voters for this fall's big election.

“On this Women's Equality Day, we are focused on protecting voting rights for all and making sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to," said local League president Joan Ziegler. The League, which also was founded in 1920, does not support or oppose candidates and is not affiliated with any political party. "We don't care who you vote for; we just want everyone to exercise their right to vote.”

“Our foremothers understood that voting provides citizens the ability to have an impact on the critical issues facing their communities,” Joan continued. "We know that it all begins with getting registered.” This fall, League members in Glenview will be participating in the National Voters Registration Day September 25 and the Illinois Statewide National Voter Registration Day September 29th. “Women's Equality Day is a time to celebrate such a basic part of our democratic process — the right to vote — and the opportunities to channel that power into real, lasting change, starting at the grassroots level – not just for women, but for all of us."

"Members of the League of Women Voters of Glenview are working to make our democracy strong and reflective of Glenview through voter registration drives, educational forums, and local advocacy." Joan said. "We always welcome new volunteers! What better day than the anniversary of the 19th Amendment to get involved?"
