Route 66 charity journey ends in Mt. Prospect
After almost a month of cycling along Route 66 to raise money for a hospice in his hometown, Jim Windass of Hull, England, will arrive at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Mount Prospect Monday, Aug. 27.
The Rainbow Hospice staff will greet the 63-year-old with a welcome ceremony and American cookout. They will be joined by Ramin Navai, the deputy counsel for the British Consulate in Chicago, and Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks, Mayor.
Windass started out on his journey on Aug. 5 in Los Angeles and will have cycled almost 2,500 miles in 22 days upon his arrival Monday. He is undertaking this journey to raise money for the hospice in Hull that took care of his late wife, Christine, during her battle with cancer.
Windass is expected to arrive at Rainbow Hospice, 1550 Bishop Court, about 10:30 a.m. More information about the charity and the journey including photos and videos are available on his website, www.cycle66.co.uk.
