NCH Clinical Staff Awarded Scholarships to Advance Careers, Enhance Patient Care

Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) is proud to announce the recipients of two separate scholarships recently awarded to clinical staff to enhance their professional development as well as the culture of clinical excellence and patient-family centered care at NCH.

The 2012 Kathy Reno Education Scholarship Program awards were made possible through a generous endowment established in 2007 by Kathy Reno, RN, PhD and her husband, John Jartz. The endowment fund was a collective endeavor in which NCH staff and community donors contributed over $100,000, a total then matched by Kathy and John and further funded by NCH. Designed to provide licensed and other clinical staff with the opportunity to receive funding to support educational activities, this initiative helps fund advanced degrees, certifications and the opportunity for staff to attend professional conferences. Kathy Reno was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at NCH from 1990 to 2006. Kathy's dynamic personality and leadership inspired and empowered staff, and was instrumental in helping NCH achieve Magnet® designation for nursing excellence in 2006. Only six percent of hospitals nation-wide achieve Magnet status.

Focused on advancing education for nurses and nurses-to-be, the 2013 Nursing Education ADVANCE Scholarship Program awards were made possible through the generous support of John and Bea Sonderegger, who are longtime NCH donors and community members. John Sonderegger is also an NCH Foundation trustee. With their gift in late 2011, the Sondereggers offered to match the contributions of NCH employees up to $10,000 to create this scholarship fund in support of nursing education. The scholarship program helps staff who would like to enter the nursing profession, as well as nurses seeking advanced degrees and nationally-recognized specialty certifications.
