Des Plaines Park District features The Barefoot Hawaiian
Aloha from the beautiful shores of Lake Opeka! The Barefoot Hawaiian performed June 27 at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion as the first of the Des Plaines Park District’s free summer entertainment series, Live at the Lake.
The Polynesian performing arts company took the audience on a tour of the islands from Tahiti to Hawaii with traditional music, costume and dance. Highlights of the show included beginning hula dances by the Keiki, traditional hulas using the ipu (gourde) drum and the Pu ili, split bamboo sticks, and the Wahine’s mystifying Maori Poi Balls dance.
The next Live at the Lake show is 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, and will feature Jeanie B, a rockin’ music show for kids and families.
