Boomers lower the boom on Bums
The first-place Schaumburg Boomers delivered 4 runs in the sixth and 3 in the eighth to win 8-4 on Monday against the visiting Traverse City Beach Bums in a matchup of first-place Frontier League teams Monday.
The Boomers (27-15) blew open a 1-1 ballgame after finally breaking through against Beach Bums (28-14) starter Jacob Clem. Chad Mozingo’s RBI triple into the right field corner scored Steve McQuail to give the Boomers the lead for good.
Boomers outfielder Sean Mahley, who’s 12-for-25 over his last six games, had 3 hits, including a sixth-inning double. Frank Pfister drove in a pair with a double in the eighth, and Nick Kuroczko and Ty Nelson each had a pair of hits.
Boomers starter Cameron Roth (5-2, 2.35) held a potent Traverse City lineup in check, allowing 1 run through his 6 innings. He struck out seven and scattered 7 hits.
Next, the Boomers head to Evansville, Ind., to take on the Otters for a three-game series before returning home for a weekend set against the Washington Wild Things.
