Women educators award grant to Conant grad

The Gamma Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International recently awarded a $1,500 recruitment grant to Shannon Peterson, a 2012 graduate of Conant High School in Hoffman Estates.

Peterson has participated in Advanced Placement and accelerated courses while maintaining the status of being on the “A” honor roll each year of her high school career. She has a variety of interests including music and drama, as well as being a drum major for the Conant Marching Band, Pep Band and Concert Band. She has also participated in Conant musicals and women’s a cappella choir. Her sports interests include soccer, volleyball and lacrosse teams.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary society of women educators. The organization promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. The society has attained major objectives in improving opportunities for qualified women employed at every level of education, as well as in advancing the status of women educators. Gamma Gamma Chapter has established a Recruitment Grant Fund to assist young women interested in pursuing a career in the field of education.

Peterson aspires to become an elementary schoolteacher and has worked in the elementary education internship program at Conant High School. In the fall, she will be attending Illinois State University, Normal.
