Schaumburg Parks hosts National Aquatics Week July 16-20

National Aquatics Week is back with activities packed with splashes and delight.

Schaumburg Park District will host a week of aquatics events from July 16 to 20 at the District's facilities. National Aquatics Week was created by the National Recreation and Park Association to promote aquatic activity in daily life.

The week will kick off with Pirates of Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road, from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 16. Have fun in the sun with pirates, free treats for children, paddle boats and canoes. Rental fees for paddle boats and canoes are $8 per hour or $4 per half-hour.

The Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road, will get tropical from 1 to 4 p.m., July 17. The indoor water park will be transformed into a lush paradise with free treats and games for children.

July 18 will be Wild, Wild West Wednesday at Meineke Pool, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Step back in time as the Wild West is recreated from 1 to 4 p.m. This event will feature free treats and games for children.

It's Tiki Thursday at Atcher Island, 730 S. Springinsguth Road. From 1 to 4 p.m. on July 19, there will be free treats and games for children. The tropical themed water park and its neighboring park will host a picnic for the whole family with a DJ, food, swimming and games from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2 and includes all activities. Barbecued food will be available for purchase. A $3 meal includes a brat or hot dog, chips and a drink.

The final event of National Aquatics Week will be from 1 to 4 p.m. July 20 at Bock Pool, 1223 W. Sharon Lane. There will be free treats and games for children during Bock and Roll.

Admission is required for National Aquatics Week events held at Park District pools. The Water Works and Atcher Island daily use resident fee is $5 for youth and $7 for adults. Non-resident fee is $7 for youth and $9 for adults. Meineke and Bock Pools daily use resident fee is $4 for youth and $5 for adults. Non-resident fee is $5 for youth and $6 for adults.
