Third top 10 fugitive from McHenry County arrested

A Lakemoor man wanted by sheriff's offices in McHenry, Kane and Lake counties has been arrested in California, marking the third arrest from McHenry County's top 10 most wanted fugitive list this week, officials said.

Karl A. Erikson, 54, of the 2300 block of Bay Oaks Drive, was arrested Thursday evening in Marina del Rey by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office after an anonymous caller contacted the McHenry County Sheriff's office regarding Erikson's whereabouts, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said in a news release. Erikson was charged with deceptive practice, misuse of credit card, false report of offense and criminal trespass to vehicle.

McHenry County had issued an arrest warrant for Erikson in December. He was also wanted for financial exploitation of the elderly by the Lake County Sheriff's office, and for felony theft by the Kane County Sheriff's office, the release stated.

A concerned citizen called the McHenry County Sheriff's office after doing a Google name search on Erikson, which led to the McHenry County Sheriff's office top 10 most wanted Web page. The caller gave information about Erikson's possible residence in the area of Marina del Rey.

Erikson was taken into custody without incident at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the release said.

On Monday, U.S. Marshals and members of the McHenry County sheriff's apprehension unit located two other men of the sheriff's office's top 10 fugitives within a one-hour period.

Jeremiah B. Pedersen of Woodstock failed to appear for a May 24 court date on multiple felony drug and aggravated battery charges, according the sheriff's office. U.S. Marshals and sheriff's deputies learned from a tip that Pedersen was possibly living in the Schaumburg area and took him into custody in South Barrington. Pedersen was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, aggravated battery and failure to appear in court.

Robert M. Gude, 33, of Huntley, who was wanted on two counts of criminal sexual assault, was arrested in St. Charles, also thanks to a tip. Police said the assault took place in Huntley on Nov. 29, 2010, and Gude was charged in March 2011.
