Suspects steal van from Lisle dealership, elude cops during chase

Lisle police are searching for three suspects who stole a van from the Bill Kay Chevrolet car dealership and lead officers on a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.

Officers responding to the reported theft from the dealership, 601 Ogden Ave., spotted the 2012 gold Chevrolet Express Van as they approached the business at about 10:30 a.m., according to police, and attempted to make a stop near Ogden Avenue at I-355.

A Lisle officer pursued the van for roughly four miles, but lost sight of the vehicle in Downers Grove near 55th at Main Street.

Employees of Bill Kay Chevrolet told police that three people were at the dealership Wednesday morning under the guise of purchasing new vehicles. Two of them, a man and a woman, were looking at the gold 2012 Chevrolet Express van and the man asked the employee to see the keys to start the car, according to police.

Police believe the man took the original key from the key ring and when the salesperson went inside to speak with the general manager, the third suspect got in the drivers seat of the van, police said.

When employees went to the car to confront the man, he drove off onto Ogden Avenue.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the van is $59,000.

Police tracked the vehicle through its GPS system and found it abandoned near Lemont, according to authorities.

Police searched the area with the help of a police dog, but did not located the suspects. The vehicle was towed to the Lisle Police department to be processed for evidence.
