Street Theatre performs 'The Emperor's New Clothes' June 18

Schaumburg Park District Street Theatre, made up of a talented bunch of young thespians, performs free family friendly plays from June through July. This is a continuing tradition that has been in Schaumburg for 34 years.

Street Theatre will continue this summer's performances with the new piece, “The Emperor's New Clothes,” on June 18 at Addams School, 700 S. Springinsguth Road. Based on the tale by Hans Christian Andersen, the play follows an emperor in the kingdom of Glump who has become a pampered clothes horse with a lack of taste. The rest of the kingdom is in shambles because clothes are his only focus. A pair of con artists devises an ingenious plan for swindling the emperor with a magic cloth that appears invisible to people unworthy of their position. Everyone falls for their scheme until a child “reveals all.” As a result, the emperor is shamed into reforming his leadership role in society.

Street Theatre performs at 7 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at locations throughout the District.

Upcoming performances of “The Emperor's New Clothes” include:

• June 20 at Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road

• June 21 at Blackwell School, 345 N. Walnut Lane

• June 25 at Bock Park, 1223 W. Sharon Lane

• June 27 at Town Square Amphitheatre, Schaumburg Road and Roselle Road

• June 28 at Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way

The audience is encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
