Police recover hundreds of stolen suburban goods
Hundreds of stolen items from the suburbs, including flat screen TVs, bicycles and construction power tools, have been recovered by Chicago police, and they’re looking for the property’s rightful owners.
The stolen property was discovered May 12 after a search warrant was executed at a home on Chicago’s West Side. Police said they were looking for illegal weapons; indeed, they found seven firearms. But they also came across the other stolen goods, valued at more than $100,000, which came from the city, as well as Schaumburg, Lombard and Bolingbrook, Chicago police told ABC 7 Friday.
Police charged Willie Sutton, 50, of the 4800 block of West Jackson Boulevard, with one count of felony theft, along with various gun charges.
“One person was the fence, and that’s who we took down — the person who was buying and selling the stolen merchandise,” Chicago Police Sgt. Michelle Rubino said.
Those who wish to claim their stolen property can view the items from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Monday at the Chicago Police Department’s 15th District headquarters at 5701 West Madison St. Property owners must present proof of ownership.
