Schaumburg High names new baseball coach

Calvin Seely has been named Schaumburg High School’s head baseball coach. Seely will take over the responsibilities of the Saxon baseball program following the retirement of 600-plus game winner Paul Groot at the end of this season.

Seely is somewhat familiar with the Saxons’ baseball program, having served as the sophomore head baseball coach since last August, when he came to the school as a social studies teacher.

Prior to arriving at Schaumburg High School, Seely spent five years teaching and coaching at Hoffman Estates High School. He was the sophomore head baseball coach at the school from August 2010-June 2011. He also served as the school’s freshman “B” team head coach (July 2009-July 2010), freshman “A” assistant coach (July 2008-June 2009), and varsity assistant coach (January 2007-June 2008).

Seely also taught social studies at Hoffman Estates High School since January 2007, before transferring to Schaumburg High School.

“We are very excited to have Cal leading our baseball program at Schaumburg High School,” said Athletic Director Tim Kirby. “He relates well with both student-athletes and parents alike. He’s familiar with the school, having coached here at the sophomore level for a season. His enthusiasm, energy, and experience make him a perfect fit for this job.”

Seely earned his bachelor of science degree in social studies from Illinois State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2006. In 2011, he received his master of arts degree in teaching United States history from the University of Illinois-Chicago. He is currently completing work on his English as a Second Language certification from National-Louis University.
