Northwest suburban water parks opening Memorial Day weekend
As the heat rises and summer fever kicks in, numerous suburban pools and water parks are beginning to open.
While some water parks won't open until area schools get out, others are opening for the holiday weekend.
Here's a look at what's happening at some of the major water parks in the Northwest suburbs:
Ÿ Aqualusion Water Park, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington
Opens: Today
Daily rates: $4-$10, children less than 3 years of age are free
What it has to offer: There are three different pools — a zero-depth, an activity and a deep-well pool — each with at least one slide. The zero-depth entry pool is designed for younger children.
Food offered: The Shark Shack, run by Canteen Restaurant, is the concession stand at Aqualusion.
Something New: The diving board was replaced, and the water park has been cleaned and repainted.
Ÿ Family Aquatic Center, 340 E. Palatine Road, Palatine
Opens: Today
Daily rates: $5-$11, children less than 3 years of age are free
What it has to offer: There are two 180-foot slides and two slides for toddlers. The park also includes a waterfall, cavelike area and large lawn. There is also a sand play area and water play bubblers and sprayers.
Food offered: The Poolside Cafe offers a variety of main dishes, snacks and treats. It also serves kids' and adults' meals, which consist of a main dish, chips and a drink.
Ÿ Seascape Family Aquatic Center, 1300 Moon Lake Blvd., Hoffman Estates
Opens: Monday, May 28
Daily rates: $6-$9, children less than 4 years of age are free
What is has to offer: Water slides, a diving area, wet sand play areas and sand volleyball accompany the two pools — a zero-depth and a 25-yard lap pool. There is also a water playground for toddlers.
Food offered: The concession stand has a variety of items, such as cheese pizza and hot dogs.
Something new: A tropical-themed play area was added for 3- to 7-year olds.
Ÿ Rainbow Falls, 200 Rev. Morrison Blvd., Elk Grove Village
Opens: Today
Daily rates: $5-$16, children less than 2 years of age are free.
What it has to offer: The park includes three pools — one leisure, one vortex, and one for toddlers — four body slides, a lazy river and a three-story fun house with a slide that drops you straight down into the water below.
Food offered: The park has a cafe that serves general concessions. There are two picnic areas to eat at.
