Kids cooking series comes to Bock this summer

Children can whip up goodies in the kitchen this summer.

Schaumburg Park District will offer a series of cooking classes this June for mini chefs at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane.

Many classes are available for children ages 6 to 12. Young chefs will make fudge, lollipops and other sweet treats in Summer Sweets from 3:30 to 5 p.m., June 12. Crazy Cupcakes will teach children how to make these tasty desserts in different shapes and sizes from 5:30 to 7 p.m., June 12. Chilly treats to help beat the summer heat will be the topic of Frozen Delights from 3:30 to 5 p.m., June 14. Girls will make easy and delicious snacks perfect for after school in Girls Cooking Goodies from 5:30 to 7 p.m., June 14. The evening of June 19 is packed with fun – Summer Fun Foods and Fun Fruits. Children will make foods that resemble butterfly wands, edible firecrackers, lovely ladybugs and delicious dragonflies from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Summer Fun Foods. Healthy snacks great for summer barbecues and picnics will be featured from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Fun Fruits. Microwave Munchies will teach little chefs to make snacks without the stove from 3:30 to 5 p.m., June 21. Boys with little to no cooking experience will learn kitchen basics and recipes from 5:30 to 7 p.m., June 21.

Big kids aren't the only ones making their way around the kitchen. Children ages 4 to 5 and their parents will spend the evening making butterfly buns, edible flowers and fish cupcakes in Summer Goodies from 6 to 7:30 p.m., June 18.

All supplies are included. Children should bring a container to take treats home.

Each cooking class is $29 for residents and $43 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.
