Vernon Hills wins Cougar Classic

Vernon Hills rolls again: Ring up another title for Vernon Hills in its own Cougar Classic.

The Cougars won their third title in a row and their sixth title in the last seven years by defeating Glenbrook South in the championship game Saturday, 25-10, 22-25, 25-20.

Vernon Hills went 5-0 on the day to move to 29-4 on the season.

Thomas Robinson and Martin Niemczewski led the way with 35 and 34 kills over the five matches respectively. Max Spiglanin added 26 kills while Evan Borden finished with 19 and Michael Heinz had 14. Robinson also had a team-high 8 service aces, 22 digs and 10 blocks while Spiglanin had team-highs in digs (25) and blocks (14) and also chipped in with 6 service aces.

Meanwhile, Vernon Hills setter Ryan Opitz finished with 124 assists.
