Buffalo Grove driver sent to prison for fatal crash

A Buffalo Grove man was sentenced this week to seven years in prison for having been drunk when he struck and killed a woman with his car last year in Northbrook.

Jiho Lee, 22, had pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence in the crash that killed 58-year-old Zofia E. Strzalkowska of Mount Prospect.

Authorities said Lee was traveling north on Sanders Road near Commercial Avenue in Northbrook in the early morning hours of Aug. 25 when he hit Strzalkowska’s vehicle. She was trying to make a left-hand turn from Commercial onto southbound Sanders.

Strzalkowska, who worked in Northbrook, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lee, who was traveling with two passengers, had also been charged with speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
