West Chicago woman tries to flee from court

A West Chicago woman took off running through a DuPage County courtroom Tuesday after a judge ordered her taken into custody for an alleged probation violation.

Kristine Juline, 29, made it roughly 30 feet to the courtroom entrance before a sheriff’s deputy grabbed her and corralled her into a holding area.

During the episode, Juline screamed that her 2-year-old daughter was in the building and their family had no idea where they were.

“Please,” she shouted. “I didn’t have to come today. I could have fled.”

The incident happened after Judge Blanche Hill Fawell told Juline that prosecutors were seeking to revoke her probation in a felony drug case. Fawell ordered Juline taken into custody, at which point Juline backed away from the bench and then bolted for the door.

A sheriff’s deputy quickly caught up with the defendant, grabbing her jacket and eventually getting his arms around her. For several moments, she continued to scream from a holding area connected to the courtroom.

“Nobody knows I’m here,” she yelled.

Fawell set bail at $100,000, meaning Juline would have to post $10,000 to go free.

Juline is accused of violating the terms of probation by refusing or failing several required drug screens.

Court records show she was sentenced in January to a year of periodic imprisonment and two years of probation after pleading guilty to heroin possession and endangering the life or health of a child.

Prosecutors said Juline left her toddler locked in a car on a hot day last August while she went behind a Home Depot in Naperville to have sex with a man who turned out to be an undercover police detective. The detective arrested her on charges of prostitution, drug possession and endangering her child.

If found guilty of violating probation, she could be resentenced in the case.

Court records show Juline has a prior conviction for cocaine possession.
