Wisniewski comes through for Fremd
Matt Wisniewski made sure Fremd didn’t have to test its luck in the 13th inning of Thursday’s suspended Mid-Suburban West baseball game with visiting Conant.
Wisniewski’s two-out RBI double in the bottom of the 12th helped Fremd (16-8, 9-2) move a step closer to a fourth straight West title with a 3-2 victory. The game was called because of darkness after 10 innings Monday and the scheduled resumption was postponed Tuesday.
The Vikings, who visit East co-leader Prospect at 4:30 p.m. today, have a three-game lead on Barrington (16-9, 6-5) with five to play. Only Barrington with six (1993-98) and five (1985-89) has won four or more consecutive division titles in MSL history.
Jason English, who got the victory with an 8-pitch 12th in his only inning of relief, started the 12th with a walk and Alec Dompke came in to pinch-run. Bobby McDonald sacrificed Dompke to second and after a fly out, Wisniewski drove his game-winner to right field.
Conant (9-11, 5-6) threatened in both innings Thursday but catcher Connor Bieda picked off a runner at second with two on and no out in the 12th. Reliever Jake Babcock left the go-ahead run at third with one out in the 11th.
