Jacobs grad Andrews MVC Player of Week
Illinois State University senior outfielder Liz Andrews, a Jacobs graduate, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Monday’s selection marks the first-career weekly MVC award for Andrews and the seventh for a Redbird this season.
Andrews posted a .545 batting average last week, going 6-for-11 with 3 doubles, 6 RBI and 5 runs scored. She also extended her on-base streak to 11 games with hits in all four contests for ISU last week, including a 2-for-3 effort with 3 RBI in an 8-3 win over Creighton Saturday afternoon.
The Algonquin native started the week by driving in a pair of runs in the Redbirds’ win over Indiana State Tuesday night. In her last six games, Andrews has raised her batting average 39 points and is hitting a team-best .342. On the season, she leads ISU with 52 hits, 11 doubles and 24 walks.
Andrews and the Redbirds will conclude the regular season this weekend, when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a three-game series with Northern Iowa.
