Artistry in Motion Performs Award Winning Choreography in the 2012 Spring into Motion Dance Concert

Artistry in Motion, the in-house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, performed Spring into Motion 2012, their annual dance concert on April 13 and 14 at the Prairie Lakes Theatre. The program showcased new choreography by founding Artistic Director, Laura Chiuve; Cecilia Ferguson-Bell; Anne Gollenberg; Mary Williams; and Karlo Familara, as well as award winning pieces from the 2012 competition season.

Friday's and Saturday's programs opened with Neighborhoods, a small group modern/abstract number with choreography by Ferguson-Bell. Also common to both shows were Fix You, performed by Kim Diebold, Meghan Hanrahan, and Suzanne Kukec, choreographed by Chiuve, which won best choreography and second overall high score at Dance Idol 2012; Girls, Boys, & Hip-Hop, performed by Hanrahan, Izabelle Kopczewski, Jordin Suwalski, and Megan Swanson, choreographed by Williams; and Bandstand Boogie, performed by the tap dancers of Rhythm in Motion, and choreographed by Chiuve.

Highlights of the two shows included performances by dancers who won awards at DanceAmerica Chicago, DanceAmerica Detroit, Dance Idol 2012, and the American Dance Awards. On Friday, Hanrahan performed Carmen, choreography by Gollenberg, which garnered four awards at Dance America Detroit including: High Score Intermediate/Senior Female Solo, Best Technical Execution, Teachers' Choice Award, and qualified her as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist. Mathew Skorupski performed Beggin', choreography by Familara, which also won four awards: two at DanceAmerica Chicago: High Score Intermediate/Senior Male Solo and qualified him as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist; Teen Male Dancer of the Year and a Great Sense of Style Award at the American Dance Awards. Diebold performed Sigh No More, choreography by Ferguson-Bell, which won Best Emotional Execution at DanceAmerica Chicago and qualified her as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist. Jenna Specchio performed King of Anything, choreography by Chiuve, which qualified her as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist at Dance America Chicago. Also, on Friday, Megan Swanson performed Soft Of, choreography by Williams, which qualified her as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist at Dance America Chicago.

On Saturday, Erika Hahn performed The Garden, choreography by Gollenberg, and Kari Radke performed Everybody Got Their Something, choreography by Chiuve, both qualifying numbers for the Dancer of the Year Semi-Finals. Rose Kurutz and Suwalski performed Work, choreography by Williams, which earned two awards at Dance Idol 2012, and Second Runner-Up High Score in the Primary/Junior duo/Trio Category. Suwalski also performed Blood Brothers, which qualified her as a Dancer of the Year Semi-Finalist and scored Best Emotional Execution at DanceAmerica Detroit, as well as a Great Potential Award at the American Dance Awards.

Artistry in Motion performs twice a year at the Prairie Lakes Theatre and at local venues around the state. The company focuses on advanced technique and original pieces for the company include an eclectic mix of jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet, modern and hip hop styles.
