Free Fitness Support from Alexian Brothers and Park Districts This Summer
Free health assessments and support to embrace healthy living are part of a new program offered by the Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg Park Districts with Alexian Brothers Health System (ABHS).
The “Be Well” program was introduced this month by the three organizations, which combined resources to develop an initiative that offers health monitoring by Alexian Brothers registered nurses at local park district facilities.
Through the program, individuals will get a free health assessment conducted by a registered nurse at a park district facility. The health assessment will measure blood pressure, body fat, cholesterol (via a finger stick with no fasting required), stroke risk consultation and, for women, an osteoporosis analysis.
“We think this is a fantastic opportunity to help residents move closer to reaching their health goals,” said Dean Bostrom, executive director for the Hoffman Estates Park District. “What better way to extend our reach then to partner with Alexian Brothers and our neighbors at the Schaumburg Park District.”
Intended as a personal method to benchmark and monitor fitness, “Be Well” also features a series of free mini-seminars. These seminars will have a nutrition focus and will try to instill in the participants the importance of making good food choices. In addition to initial health assessments, blood pressure and body fat checks will be available each month to track progress.
“The program is a perfect support tool for anyone starting a fitness program,” said Vince Kennedy, Schaumburg's recreation superintendent. “It's a great way to track progress of a personal get-in-shape regimen.”
“The park districts have been very receptive to these efforts, and everybody is very excited about the “Be Well” program,” said Sara Odland-Beyna ABHS Manager of Community Relations. “It ties all of our respective missions together to serve our customers, patrons and patients in the best way we can with their health in mind.”
Each community offers an impressive array of get-in-shape-or-stay-in-shape activities. The Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates Park District offer excellent fitness facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, personal trainers, weight rooms, swimming pools, gyms and innovative classes.
The “Be Well” program runs through August. To register for your free assessment, call 866-ALEXIAN. Additional information, including seminar times and dates, is available at alexianbrothershealth.org. More information is also available at heparks.org and parkfun.com.
