Libertyville springs upset on Vernon Hills
Brandon Leatherwood piled up 10 kills and 6 blocks, leading Libertyville’s boys volleyball team to a 25-18, 25-21 upset of visiting Vernon Hills in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.
The Wildcats also received 7 kills from Stefan Vidovich, 5 blocks from Rob St. Claire and 26 assists from Teddy Kopacz.
Libertyville coach Casey Aubin called Leatherwood the “player of the game.”
Thomas Robinson and Martin Niemczewski had 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for Vernon Hills (13-2, 2-1).
“Casey Aubin just had his team far more ready to play than we did,” Cougars coach Chris Curry said. “They were enthusiastic, they limited their errors, and they showed a toughness that we didn’t have.”
Lakes d. Antioch: Mason Solbrig slammed 21 kills and Dalton Solbrig had eight, as the Eagles outlasted the host Sequoits 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 in a North Suburban thriller.
Lakes (8-11) also got 14 digs from Alex Verhagen, 5 aces from Richard Galat and 23 assists from Eric Metzelaar. Galat added 18 assists and 13 digs.
Lake Zurich d. North Chicago: Chris Carmody clobbered 13 kills, as the Bears won 25-9, 25-13 for their first victory in North Suburban action.
Michael Savio added 8 kills for Lake Zurich (2-9, 1-3), while Jeremy Anderson and Pat Bush each dished out 12 assists.
Stevenson d. Glenbrook South: Brad Tiller pounded 18 kills, leading the Patriots to a 22-25, 26-24, 25-23 nonconference win.
Collin Ryan contributed 12 kills for Stevenson (13-2), which also got 6 kills from Jason Fleischman and 3 aces and 33 assists from Jonah May.
