Senior Melany Love helped Dundee-Crown’s softball team beat Huntley Monday with her arm and her bat.
Love was 3-for-4 with 3 singles, and she came in to pitch the final 41⁄3 innings of the Chargers’ 10-7 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win, allowing just 1 hit and 1 earned run with 8 strikeouts.
D-C (5-9, 2-4) also got offensive contributions from Mandy Moore (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Amanda Eissler (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI), Mallory Schilf (2-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI), Lauren Girardi (2-for-3) and Abigail Perillo (HR, 3 RBI).
Huntley fell to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
CL South 4, McHenry 2: Liz Adams singled in Kimberly Woods with one ninth-inning run and another scored on an error as the Gators (10-2, 2-1) prevailed in the FVC Valley. Sam Golf (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) and Allie Bochat (4-for-4, 2B) also contributed at the plate for Crystal Lake South. Hailie Massie (4-2) earned the win in the circle, going all 9 innings and allowing 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Metea Valley 12, Larkin 1: Lexi Smithberg was 2-for-3 with a double in the Royals’ Upstate Eight loss. She was also the losing pitcher for Larkin (3-15, 0-4), which committed 6 errors in the game.
