Owner of day care center where boy was killed dies day before trial
The former owner of a Lincolnshire day care center where a child was killed in 2009 died yesterday, a day before she was set to stand trial on obstruction of justice charges. Details of the death of Judith Katz, 67, were unavailable last night, but she was suffering from cancer. Katz was accused of instructing employees to lie about how many adults were in the room when 16-month-old Benjamin Kingan was thrown to the ground and killed by an employee. Boy found unresponsive in Des Plaines pool is recovering
A 4-year-old boy remains hospitalized after he was found unresponsive in a Des Plaines pool Saturday afternoon. The boy and his family were at a family gathering on Forest Avenue when he was found. The child was swimming in a backyard pool with family members. He was in stable condition Sunday. Full story.
Walsh rolls out campaign motorhome
Congressman Joe Walsh unveiled his new campaign motorhome to about four dozen supporters at a Huntley Tea Party rally over the weekend. Walsh’s supporters and protesters positioned themselves along Route 47. Walsh pushed the 1984 Fleetwood Pace Arrow in Madison, Wis., for $7,500. The vehicle is equipped with Walsh’s “It’s time. West Chicago mayor recovering from heart attack
West Chicago Mayor Michael Kwasman continues to recover from a heart attack he suffered Saturday. City officials said he is undergoing treatment at Central DuPage Hospital. The city council will hold their regularly scheduled meeting tonight. Kwasman was elected mayor in 2007 after being named acting mayor in late 2006. Full story.
Villa Park man drowns after falling from kayak
A Villa Park man who was doing service work on a pond to keep geese away died after falling early Saturday, according to police. Anthony Hensley, 37, was found in about 12 feet of water near a Des Plaines area apartment complex after a jogger reported seeing him fall off a kayak into the water. Full story.
Fire damages Rolling Meadows garage
A Sunday morning fire caused about $30,000 in damage to a Rolling Meadows home. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but officials said the attached garage of the home on the 0-88 block of Applejack Road was at a complete loss. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the interior of the house. Full story.

A strong lines of storms has moved out of the area, but, cooler temperatures will move in throughout the day. It’ll start at about 59 degrees, but will only hit a high temperature of about 60 degrees when high winds move in later today. Temperatures will drop to 39 degrees tonight. Full story.
Traffic
Numerous accidents are being reported this morning in the area. Gurnee officials are tending to two crashes — one at Route 120 and O’Plaine Road and a second at Hunt Club and Washington — while there are delays in Hanover Park at Walnut Drive and Lake Street. People out near Northbrook should prepared to reroute around Waukegan Road between Shermer and Walters Road due to a water main break that caused a 6-foot hole to buckle the street. In addition, the outside lane of eastbound Route 137 near Antioch will be closed to complete the preliminary work for the installation of new water main. The closure will begin at about 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Full story.
Rose ties the game with late 3, Bulls win in OT
Although the Bulls struggled for most of the game against the less-than-average Detroit Pistons, Derrick Rose nailed a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game with 6.4 seconds left in the 4th quarter. The Bulls went on to defeat the Pistons 100-94 in overtime, giving the Bulls their 15th straight win over Detroit. Rose netted 24 points and 9 assists, but turned the ball over 7 times. Full story.
