West Chicago mayor recovering from heart attack

West Chicago Mayor Michael Kwasman continued to recover Sunday from a heart attack he suffered Saturday, officials said.

Kwasman is undergoing treatment at Central DuPage Hospital, according to a statement from city officials.

In the meantime, officials say they are likely to go ahead as planned with the city council’s regular meeting scheduled for Monday night. .

“I haven’t heard anything to the contrary,” First Ward Alderman Lori Chassee said Sunday.

Chassee also expressed her support for Kwasman and his family.

“My thoughts and prayers are with them,” she said. “We’re all hoping he has a full and speedy recovery. This is a reminder that every moment is precious.”

Kwasman was named acting mayor of West Chicago in late 2006, and was formally elected to the position in April of 2007. Before that he served as a 5th Ward alderman. He was first elected to the city council in 2001.
