Kirk Players presents ‘Jack and the Magic Beans’ a la bellbottoms and rock and roll
More than 40 spirited kids, teens and adults will present a rock and roll version of the favorite English folktale about Jack Spriggins and his quest to free his village from the terrible grip of Gogmagog, the Giant.
The Kirk Players will present “Jack and the Magic Beans” by Vera Morris at 7 p.m. Friday, April 13, at Mundelein High School Theatre. Other performances are scheduled for 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 15.
With songs and costumes from the 1960s, the troupe will tell the charming and rousing story of Jack Spriggins and his heroic efforts to climb the huge beanstalk, enter the castle of the Giant and fight the hateful Gogmagog and his spiteful Troll.
“We’ll have some wonderful surprises for our theatergoers with this version of the folktale. Imagine a rockin’ and rollin’ rooster protecting the golden egg-laying chicken, magic beans dancing to a famous Rolling Stones tune and Jack using martial arts to dispatch the Giant”, mused Jon Matousek, the director of the show. “This should be a lot of fun for youngsters, teens and adults … and grandparents, like me, who enjoy reflecting on the crazy 60s.”
Tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, $7 for children under 12. They are available by calling (847) 521-6192 or visiting www.kirkplayers.com
