Carmel rallies past Antioch

Carmel’s softball team erupted for 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie and going on to defeat visiting Antioch 9-3 in the teams’ nonconference game Wednesday.

Carmel got home runs from Sally Snarski and Kathleen Felicelli, and each player had 2 hits on the day. Skyler Zak added a double for the Corsairs. Snarski had 3 RBI, while Felicelli and Jenny Behan (1-for-3, 2 runs) each knocked in a pair.

Antioch was paced offensively by Kaylene Ressler, who went 3-for-4, and Jessica Pedersen, who was 2-for-3.

Winning pitcher Nicole Bitter allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings.

Vernon Hills 11, Hersey 2: Jenn Claussen had 3 hits, including her first home run of the season, and Jordyn Comitor and Anya Mollenhauer had 2 hits apiece for the visiting Cougars.

Claussen, Comitor and Mollenhauer each had 2 RBI, as well, and Claussen (5-2) picked up the win. Vernon Hills (6-4) led 11-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Buffalo Grove 9, Grant 1: The visiting Bulldogs got their only run on Rachel DePouw’s third home run of the season.

Grant fell to 7-2 with the nonconference loss.

Barrington 17, Lakes 2: The Fillies’ 19-hit attack included a home run by Tess Bolger at the Fields of Dreams.

Meghan Milewski had a double for Lakes.
