Order native plants with Spring Valley and Schaumburg Community Garden Club

Go green at home with native plants.

Schaumburg Park District and Schaumburg Community Garden Club are accepting pre-orders until Monday, April 23 for the annual sale of native wildflowers, grasses, trees and shrubs.

The use of native plants in the home landscape is an excellent way to go green. Native perennials are hardier than many cultivars, drought-tolerant and require no fertilizers or pesticides. They can also be used to replace a portion of lawn, reducing both expense and greenhouse gas emissions resulting from mowing.

A list of plants available and order forms can be obtained by calling Spring Valley Nature Center at (847) 985-2100, or can be viewed and downloaded from www.schaumburggardenclub.com.

Pre-ordered plants will be available for pick-up at the Backyards for Nature Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 6 at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Plants can also be purchased at the event. Pre-ordering is recommended since quantities of some plants are limited.
