Mundelein’s Borucki, Langlie impress against C-G
No wonder all those major league scouts were on hand, aiming their radar guns, when Ryan Borucki took the mound for Mundelein’s baseball team last week against visiting Grayslake North.
“It was a zoo,” Mustangs coach Todd Parola said. “Every team was there. It was unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it, even when I was in college (at Indiana University).”
Borucki showed off his powerful left arm again Wednesday, no-hitting Cary-Grove 7-0 at Rent One Park in downstate Marion.
The University of Iowa recruit, who throws 90-plus mph, struck out 13.
Not to be outdone, Borucki’s teammate Matt Langlie also pitched a no-hitter Wednesday.
Langlie fanned seven over 6 innings in a 10-0 win over Shawnee (Kan.) in Cobden, as Mundelein improved to 9-1.
Ryan Dolan led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run. Torr Randau (2-for-4), Jordan Bregenzer (2-for-3), Nate Avis and Borucki all doubled.
Jordan Wiegold supported Borucki against Cary-Grove, going 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run. Will Farmer was 3-for-4 with a double, and Bryan Wiener went 2-for-4.
Vernon Hills 6, Anna-Jonesboro 3: Chris Marras homered, doubled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Cougars.
John Foley also had a double for Vernon Hills, while MJ Crowley picked up the win.
Carmel wins twice: In downstate Illinois on Tuesday, the Corsairs improved to 4-1 by notching a pair of wins, 13-2 over St. Charles North at Rent One Park in Marion and 7-5 over host Harrisburg.
Brett Milazzo and Alex Young led the way against St. Charles North. Milazzo went 4-for-5 with a double, while the Texas Christian-bound lefty Young helped his own cause on the mound with a double and triple. Young struck out nine, including eight in a row.
Carmel pounded out 17 hits, getting other contributions from Sean Brennan (3-for-4), Matt Schaefer (2-for-3), Nico Carocciolo (double), Ian Kristan (double) and John Salvi (triple).
Milazzo continued his hot hitting against Harrisburg, as he went 3-for-5 with a double. Tyler Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double, and Michael Stahoviak went 2-for-3. Carmel had 13 more hits.
A pair of sophomores led the Corsairs on the mound. Righty Quinten Sefcik earned the win, and Dalten Wright got the save.
