Rolling Meadows High School honors student killed in Mexico

Rolling Meadows High School will honor Alexis Marron, a student who was killed in Mexico last December by planting a tree in his memory at the school's memorial garden next month.

Weather permitting, the school will plant a maple tree for Marron on April 10. There will also be a dedication plaque in his honor near the base of the tree.

Marron's name has already been added to a large stone in the memorial garden outside the school, said Rolling Meadows High School Principal Eileen Hart.

The memorial garden has two large stones bearing the names of students or staff who have died while at the school. Marron's name is the 44th one added to the stones since the school's opening in 1971.

Marron was murdered while visiting family in the Mexican state of Michoacan over Christmas weekend. He and two other men were found dead in the trunk of a burned car on Christmas Eve.

Marron, 18, had been recognized in 2010 for being a high achiever in the 2010 National Spanish Examinations.
