Motorola's latest wrist device offers golfers a satellite view of game
Golf enthusiasts, who want to bring a techie edge to their game, now have a chance with MotoActv Golf Edition from Libertyville-based Motorola Mobility.
The wristband device tracks your every move on the course and allows you to later see it via satellite, reliving the entire game from every angle. It also keeps track of your score, clubs and key stats, such as the number of putts taken and even the greens in regulation that you hit. Users also can customize their clubs with those on MotoActv.
"Before you would use your laser finders or a GPS device. But now you can use this wrist device and there's no fumbling for pencils or your range finder," said Paul Nicholson, director of marketing for companion products at Motorola Mobility. Nicholson was calling from the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla., where three-time PGA Tour winner Bubba Watson and other golfers were wearing the device through this weekend.
The company announced the MotoActv device last fall and plans to roll out a number of devices for several sports. The MotoActv Golf Edition can be pre-ordered at www.motorola.com/motoactv and www.amazon.com for $299.99. Devices will begin shipping on April 1.
"Once you finish your game, you can go to any Wi-Fi hot spot and upload all your information for free to use the clubhouse. It provides a virtual satellite view of your entire golf round," Nicholson said.
The device helps golfers improve their game while streamlining all their devices into one wrist device, he said.
"This really is a game changer on visualizing your game," he added.
For more, see www.motoactv.com and or follow Twitter @motoactv. Among the features is a free online clubhouse, Nicholson said.
