Rodriguez, Burke merit MSL honors

Buffalo Grove senior Ian Rodriguez and Conant junior Jonathon Burke have earned the Mid-Suburban League’s swimmer of the year honors.

Rodriguez capped a standout career by breaking four individual school records (200 free, 500 free, 200 IM, 100 breastroke) this season. He also holds the team record in the 100 backstroke and had legs on all three relays which set team records this season.

Bound for Michigan State, Rodriguez produced his best time in the 100 breaststroke in the state finals at Evanston, finishing eighth. He qualified for the state meet in two individual events and two relays, and was an MSL champ in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Burke broke Conant records in the 500 freestyle and on the 400 freestyle relay in a breakthrough season for the Mid-Suburban League champions.

He placed fifth in the 500 freestyle at the state meet and helped the 200 free relay finish 12th. Burke also finished 16th on the Cougars’ 400 free relay and 17th in the 200 free at state, and was MSL champ in the 200 and 500 freestyles.
