Michelle Jakubowski to be new Huntley AD

Huntley assistant athletic director and girls volleyball coach Michelle Jakubowski has verbally accepted an offer to become the school’s next athletic director.

Pending District 158 board approval on April 18, Jakubowski will succeed Bruce Blumer, who will retire this summer after 11 years as Huntley athletic director.

“I’m just really excited,” Jakubowski said Tuesday. “I’ve been lucky enough to work for Bruce for the last three years and learned from one of the best. I’m just excited to get the opportunity to lead Huntley athletics.”

A graduate of Northeastern Illinois University who holds two Master’s degrees, Jakubowski arrived at Huntley in 2006. The math teacher previously taught and coached volleyball for four years at Winnebago High School and six years at Lake Zurich. Her husband, Andy, has been an English teacher at Huntley and the school’s head baseball coach for six years.

Jakubowski will become the third female athletic director in the 14-school Fox Valley Conference, joining Patti Hie at Prairie Ridge and Tina Woolard at Grayslake North.

Jakubowski said no decisions have been made in regard to the head football coaching position, which has remained vacant since Matt Gehrig resigned on February 13.
