Driver cited in Route 12 crash

A driver has been cited in a Monday morning crash between a semitrailer and a car on Route 12 in Wauconda that injured one person and tied up traffic for about an hour.

Wauconda Police Chief Doug Larsson said a semi was on the southbound shoulder of Route 12 about a half-mile south of Route 59 when he pulled into the roadway in front of a Chevy Cavalier about 7 a.m.

The car hit the semi and was pinned under it near Ivanhoe Road, Larsson said, resulting in injuries to the driver of the Cavalier.

The unidentified driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with internal injuries that were deemed nonlife-threatening, Larsson said.

The truck driver, Robert Bednarski, 42, of Glendale Heights was cited by police for not yielding the right of way, Larsson said.

Morning rush-hour traffic was blocked for about an hour in the left lane of southbound Route 12 while authorities worked to tow the vehicles from the scene, Larsson said.

Bednarski is due back in court in March, he said.
