No injuries as Lisle school bus slides off road
No injuries were reported Friday morning when a school bus carrying about two dozen students slid off an icy Lisle street and wound up with its front tires stuck in the mud of a resident’s yard.
The students, all first- and second-graders from Tate Woods Elementary School, were transferred to another bus and arrived about 20 minutes late for classes, Lisle Unit District 202 Assistant Superintendent Keith Filipiak said.
Filipiak said the driver of the Illinois Central bus was attempting to turn around at the intersection of Lacey and Dumoulin as part of his normal route when the vehicle slid into the yard of resident Raymond Roe. When the driver tried to back out, the bus became mired in the snow and mud.
Another bus was nearby and able to take the students to classes. The original bus was towed from the yard.
Filipiak said the school sent letters home in students’ backpacks explaining what happened.
Lisle police were not immediately available to say whether any citations were issued.
