Pierog for Senate Dist. 25, Democrat
Although both candidates for the Democratic nomination for Illinois Senate District 25 are newcomers to statewide politics, experience does play into the qualifications that distinguish them. Corinne Pierog, of St. Charles, is a local school board member. Steven Hunter has experience as a union steward and as a member of the North Central Illinois Labor Council. Hunter’s experience has helped him appreciate the challenges of finding compromise between divergent positions. Pierog’s has given her insights into the difficulties of managing a complex administration and a multimillion-dollar school budget during tough economic times. All are valuable and relevant preparations for a legislative seat, but we lean toward the leadership that Pierog demonstrates. She has a solid handle on state issues and offers detailed positions for dealing with them. Both candidates can do more to acknowledge some of the difficult choices that will need to be made to solve the state’s pension and budget crises. Pierog seems best positioned for helping reach effective bipartisan solutions. The 25th District runs from Elgin south to Yorkville taking in parts of Sugar Grove, Batavia and West Chicago.
