Thanks for the ride, Lombard Toyota
I am so proud to live in a community where the school, residents, and local businesses come together to support our young adults. For the third year in a row the Glenbard East community, including administrators, District 87 board members, parents and area businesses, have come together to provide a post prom event for Glenbard East junior and senior students and their guests.
As you know, prom is an important event in a high school student’s career. While prom is an important night, it is also one of the highest risk evenings that our young adults will experience.
One way Glenbard East has tried to reduce the risk is to provide a post prom event at an exclusive venue, as well as transportation to and from the event. This way, students have a way to continue the evening without the danger of alcohol, drugs, or being behind the wheel late at night, when risks increase. Students are safe and supervised.
But, especially in these economic times, such an event can be a financial burden to the very students we are trying to protect. One of District 87’s community business partners, Lombard Toyota Scion, has made sizable donations each year to help us make this event a reality for our students. This year they have outdone themselves and will be covering the cost of transporting 300 East students and chaperones from Prom and Glenbard East to Navy Pier in Chicago, where the students will enjoy a lakefront cruise. The cost of the chartered coach busses almost equals the cost of the cruise itself.
So, on behalf of Glenbard East students and their parents I would like to say: Lombard Toyota Scion, thanks for the ride.
