Rolling Meadows Hockey Team Wins Cross Road Chicago Ice Hockey Tournament

The Northwest Chargers Midget (U16) Minor NIHL team captured the annual Cross Road Chicago Ice Hockey Tournament championship after beating a rival hockey team from Hoffman Estates in an exciting game by a score of 4-3 on Jan. 16 at the Darien Sportsplex.

The Chargers, based in Rolling Meadows, played three games and one semi-final game to get to the championship game. The Chargers beat the Wolfpack from Hoffman Estates the first time on Jan. 14 by a score of 3-2, then beat the Penguins from Dallas by a score of 6-1, and then beat the Cyclones from Geneva by a score of 5-0 to make it into the semi-finals. In the semi-finals the Chargers beat the Cary Grove High School Trojans from Crystal Lake in a close game of 4-3. They ended the exciting tournament by edging out the Wolfpack in the Championship game. Team Captain Kyle McBrien was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the tournament, which is a Big Bear Tournament.

Team members of the Chargers include Justin Baldwin of West Dundee, goalie John Cassata of Schaumburg, Derek Chapman of South Barrington, Shun Furuno of Schaumburg, Connor Havlir of Arlington Heights, Randy Johnson of Lindenhurst, Jared Kang of Kildeer, Liam Kilcoyne of Palatine, goalie Max Kollman of Libertyville, Nolan Magsamen of Algonquin, Kyle McBrien of Lake Villa, Joey Meyer of Grayslake, Conor OMally of Elgin, Brett Roon of St. Charles, Tyler Schnell of Lake In The Hills, and Tommy Zeman of Palatine. The team is coached by Head Coach Gregg Lee, along with coaches Eric Magsamen, Tim Mueller and Troy Mueller. Leslie Meyer is the team manager.

The Chargers Midget Minor NIHL team has been the reigning Northern Illinois Hockey League champions for the last two seasons.
