Services set for Crystal Lake Marine

Funeral plans are set for a Crystal Lake man who was one of six Marines killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Visitation for 29-year-old Capt. Nathan McHone will be Saturday. His funeral will be Sunday afternoon at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. McHone will be buried at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Cary.

McHone is a 2001 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School. He died Jan. 19 when a CH-53D helicopter crashed in Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand. It was the deadliest crash in Afghanistan since August, when a Chinook helicopter was apparently shot down, killing 30 American troops.

The cause was under investigation, but the NATO international military coalition said there was no enemy activity in the area when it happened.
